A table the
length of a
block.
One shared meal. Hundreds of neighbors. A city remembering itself — one seat at a time.

Our Purpose
…to rebuild real-life community,
…where neighbors host simple tables that spark joy, trust, and shared action in every community,
…until every neighborhood feels like home.
Why this matters
An epidemic
of loneliness.
We live closer together than ever, and yet further apart. Across every generation, in every zip code, the most quietly devastating crisis of our time is disconnection — from one another, from the places we live, from the simple practice of sharing a meal with a stranger.
The cure is not complicated. It looks like a table. It looks like a chair pulled up beside yours. It looks like saying yes to your block.
The Longest Table is a civic experiment in connection, belonging, and participation. It is not a fundraiser. It is not a festival. It is neighbors, eating together, in public, in plain sight — practicing the small art of showing up for one another.
Origin
It started
in New York City.
On a single street in Manhattan, neighbors set a table that ran the full length of their block. They cooked. They invited strangers. They sat shoulder to shoulder for hours.
What began as one dinner became a quiet movement: an invitation to any community willing to put down a tablecloth and pull up a chair. Each table is hosted by neighbors, for neighbors. There is no organizer-in-chief. There is no admission price. There is only the table, and whoever is willing to sit at it.
Now it's Oakland's turn.
Bringing it to Oakland
One Sunday.
One long table.
One Oakland.

Pull up a chair. Bring a dish, bring a friend, bring nothing at all — just bring yourself. Every seat at this table is already yours.
